About Us

Mr Isaac Wagstaff came to the South from Yorkshire and was a Joiner, who had completed his indentures in Leeds before moving South to Peacehaven. He identified a need within the growing community for an undertaker and like most undertakers at the time undertook funeral work as well as carpenter and building work. He established the business in 1911.

In 1920 Mr John [Jack] Wagstaff was born in the new town of Peacehaven, he was the first child to be born in the new town, and continues to this day with an active interest in the Family Company. In latter years he was responsible for bringing together pupils from the local ‘Tin School’, which is still active.

Jack and Margaret married in 1944 and have four children, three daughters and one son, and all have played a part in the family business at some point. Jack & Margaret have continued to live and work within the community of Peacehaven throughout their married life. Alistair Wagstaff continues the family tradition as the Funeral Director at our Kemp Town Brighton office.

We at Wagstaff’s have always looked upon it as a honour and privilege, that families choose us to look after them at this time of bereavement.

Our reputation is extremely important to us, therefore consider professional and courteous service should be paramount on all occasions.

When small independent funeral services are being taken over by the larger national companies, we are proud to continue as a truly local independent family owned and run business, looking out for our clients best interest at all time.
